Depth of Field

Depth of Field

Unfortunately the Blender depth of field has problems that we would have to deal with...most likely so I am looking into another way to get DoF...which I would probaly do with After Effects. Here I have an image, and a greyscale image that would represent areas close and far from the camera lens.

I would use the greyscale image to regulate the focus distance...sadly I am still having problems. I am going to try to look into the stuff about the new Z buffers in Blender...which should help.

What's wrong with the defocus node? Afaik, it allows to do exactly what you're trying to do.
Another approach is to map the z-buffer using a "map values" node, then using the output as the input value for a simple blur node. That isn't so accurate and have some problems with image boudaries but it's really fast.
